今天我們就一起來學學該怎麼說吧~

你給對方留言到一半斷掉了說Machine cut me off.

講電話到一半斷掉了說I got cut off.

📌cut someone off [phrase], to stop people from continuing a phone conversation by breaking the phone connection

掛斷…的電話；使…電話掉線

📌to cause a person or place to become separate, or cause someone to be or feel alone

阻斷，隔斷，隔絕

He cut himself off from other people. 他不跟人來往

The town has been cut off by the storm. 小鎮因為暴風雨跟外界隔絕了

另外補充其他用法
📌cut sb off, If someone serving drinks in a bar cuts you off, that person stops serving you alcoholic drinks because they think you have drunk too many.不賣給…酒
或者在口語中也有不給(某樣東西)這樣的用法
例如
He is drinking too much. We need to cut him off.
他喝太多酒了，我們不能再讓他喝了

📌cut sth off, to remove a part of something to make it smaller or shorter, using a sharp tool such as a knife
（用鋒利的刀具等）去除，切除，剪去
e.g. He had his arm cut off in a car accident. 他在一次車禍中失去了他的手
📌to stop providing something such as electricity, supplies, etc.
中斷，切斷（電力、物資供應等）
e.g. Our electricity will be cut off if we don’t pay the bill in time. 如果沒有按時繳帳單，我們就會被斷電

你在看電影或美劇時有沒有聽人家說過give me a shot?
不是一槍斃了我啊！千萬不要誤會XD

這其實是日常對話很常見的片語，意思是讓我試試看吧!

詳細解釋
先來看看shot是什麼意思？
give me a shot 這裡當名詞用
meaning: an attempt to do or achieve something that you have not done before

所以這邊give me a shot是讓我試試、給我個機會這樣的意思

像是give me a chance, give me an opportunity等等

 

常見片語 give sth./sb. a shot

你也可以這樣用

I’ve never tried skiing before, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

我從來沒滑過雪，但我想試試

Give it a shot, maybe you’ll win the lottery. Buy 10 tickets for 10 straight weeks.

📗shot其實還有超多意思說不完

A hunter might say (although I don’t like the idea of killing an animal)

= a combination of ‘shot’ as coming from the verb ‘to shoot a gun’ and discouragement, connoting ‘destroyed.”
“Our chances now to win this basketball are shot to hell”
– a sort of casual, partly crude (because of ‘hell’) expression that is similar in meaning to the above ‘shot to pieces.’
I’m really shot = slang for I’m so tired.

但是念了這麼多書，你知道怎麼跟人家說自己念到哪裡了嗎XD

例如，美國就沒有國中這個說法，那怎麼辦呢?

我們常見的問題就是英文學了好多年卻很多日常生活英文都不會說

今天就快點來惡補這個自我介紹裡不能少的資訊吧!

 

學齡前

托嬰/托兒所- daycare

幼稚園-pre-school一年，然後Kindergarten一年

國小

Elementary school

中文講年級就是一個字

但小心在英文的世界裡不是永遠這樣喔

美國學制12年

所以有grade 1-12，記得要用序數喔

如果你說I am in the first grade. 代表我小學一年級

Second grade 小二
Third grade 小三
Fourth grade 小四
Fifth grade 小五
Sixth grade 小六

國中

Junior High School/middle school

Seventh grade 國一
Eighth grade 國二
Ninth grade 國三

高中

Senior High School/high school

Tenth grade 高一
Eleventh grade 高二
Twelfth grade 高三

也可以用

高一 freshman

高二 sophomore

高三senior

 

大學

college/university

大學開始就不用grade了喔

大一 freshman

大二 sophomore

大三 junior

大四 senior

念完你就有學士學位-bachelor’s degree or college degree

 

另外補充

junior可以形容比你小的

例如國外有小孩跟父母同名，就會叫xxx junior

Senior當然就是比你大的

我們的理解就是前輩的概念(或是年紀長/階級高的)

例如 if you want a raise, you have to impress your senior. 如果你想要加薪，就得讓上司留下好印象

 

研究所

Graduate School (畢業後去的學校就是研究所，好記吧)

那碩士一年級 英文怎麼說呢?
I’m in my first year of graduate school. 我念碩一

念完你就有碩士學位-master’s degree

 

博士班

doctoral program/PhD
